Reflections on Reality

The Nature of Heart

The heart is regarded as entirely without reason or logic, thus it should be disregarded because its knowledge is not founded on what the world considers “truth,” but on passing emotions.

The heart has also been regarded as being immensely wise, coming from a source of ancient truth or wisdom this world only dreams to know or harness. The heart’s wisdom may stem from its own logic, untouchable by the world’s cold hands.

This phase of my paintings are a continuation of my Reflections on Reality series, but in some ways they are more personal and much more open ended than my previous work. They embody an exploration of heart that I dove deeply into in order to more fully understand heartbreak, healing, defeat, and hope. As I explored these topics I kept in mind the concept of time; a force that lends a large hand in the procession of our thoughts. The work depicts my understanding of how eternal love and limited life can coexist so silently. My paintings seek to offer something recognizable to those looking for healing and understanding while working through turbulent mindsets. In my opinion, love is constantly present, and heartbreak can be a period where we lose sight of it.

My research consists of studying cross-cultural proverbs and symbolism used within literature and musical lyrics. My influences and inspirations draw from American, African, Native American, South Asian, Roman, and medieval cultures and philosophies.

I share these ideas with you in hopes of increasing the goodness that life, love and humanity is capable of offering. Additionally, I hope they provoke the consideration required for reaching some kind of realization of a shared truth, other than pain, fear, and sorrow
