Reflections on Reality

Artist Statement

My paintings represent revelations that we, as humans, experience over the course of our life. Such revelations come to us through introspection and reconciliation with a willingness to heal and connect. Much of my research consists of studying music and its lyrics, cross-cultural proverbs and symbolism, consistent religious events, and philosophical constructs such as rebirth and enlightenment.

Inspired by the old, iconic religious paintings of the Renaissance period and throughout art history, I wished to condense and modernize their forms, further defining their meaning, creating a story that is universally recognizable, digestible and eternally present. Ultimately, I believe it is Love that propels Life, creative activity and Truth due to its sharing, creative, transparent and resilient nature. Love has many different expressions, but like any good translator of language, will retain its meaning no matter the given form.

I believe communication between our internal and external understanding of ourselves is key to sharing truth, expressing love, and living an authentic life. Many of the subjects I have researched, such as music and literature, support the notion that what is derived from the heart, mind, and soul is regarded as truth. By researching the patterns within these subjects, I attempt to consolidate them and learn something for myself. I share these ideas with you in hopes of increasing the goodness that life, love and humanity is capable of offering. Additionally, I hope they provoke the consideration necessary for reaching some kind of realization of a shared truth, other than pain, fear and sorrow.
